Our mission is to create huggable toys using sustainable, eco-conscious practices while providing dignified work to women in need.
Our impact over the past year – 2022
In 2022 we provided over 120 women from underprivileged communities with 44 428 hours of dignified work.
At Flyostbyte, we define dignified work as employment in a safe, healthy environment for a fair trade wage with access to a community of peers and opportunities for professional development.
As proud members of the World Fair Trade Organization and verified social enterprise by the Social Enterprise World Forum, we advocate for women’s rights, equality, and refugee integration.
Despite the challenges of language and cultural barriers, we are driven by the common goal of building a better future for our children.
By supporting Flyostbyte, you are contributing to improving the lives of over 400 children, as our artisan mothers use their earnings to support their families.
Fair Trade
The World Fair Trade Organization Label guarantees that Flyostbyte follows Fair Trade best practices in our organization. From working conditions to pay all aspects of our work relay on a dialogue, transparency and respect. We work very hard to secure the rights of, marginalized producers and workers
Good For Your Baby And Good
For The World
Hand-crocheted from hug-ready organic cotton yarn, our toys are designed to be easily recognizable for imaginative play (and even easier to clean!). We use sustainably sourced hypoallergenic polyfill stuffing made from recycled bottles. Each toy undergoes rigorous testing and meets safety standards like the EN71 toy safety standard for the European Union.
Families Helping Families
Our toys are hand-made by a community of over 120 moms in and around Istanbul. Many are impoverished locals, others are refugees from Syria and Afghanistan. Your purchase lets us pay them a fair trade wage that helps lift their families out of poverty.
“I’ve learnt handcrafts, worked with it and earned money. And I’ve supported my daughter to finish her education. If any of my children or my husband need help, I can support them.”
-Samira, Syrian Refugee
Empowering Our Workers
We give our artisan moms the flexibility to work when and how it works best for them. Everyone sets their own schedule. We offer job training for women who are new to crocheting. Our cheerful studio has a dedicated play area for anyone who needs help with childcare. Some of our mothers prefer to work at home where they can balance family life with their craftwork.
“When we first came to Turkey, we were alone. We didn’t have relatives or our families….When we work here as a community of women, we support each other. We share ideas. We help each other. We make friendships. We became a family, sisters.”
Rania, Syrian Refugee
